Life. Curiosity.

Life works in the most mysterious of ways.

A bit too often, you can be disappointed and discouraged.

Once you learn that you have no control over what other people think, do and what you are subjected to, life becomes a little easier.

This only creates a sense of urgency…

That the time you have left, be it a few decades or less, is left to your mind.

That the efforts and will power entrenched in your sense of being, is left to your control.

That there is so much more to life, than achieving something or earning loads of money.

This is the aspect that keeps one alive, the aspect of curiosity.

There is no greater path you can take than that which questions the status quo,

be it a product delivery, types of service, a clause in a contract, a limitation in the law…

These are the barriers in which great minds, effort and people have invested their purpose in.

These are the barriers which resulted in changed industries, legal systems and nations…

I wake up everyday knowing that there’ll never be a limit to what I can learn,

This does not discourage me, but rather makes me live out my day to the challenge.

This has resulted in an immeasurable opportunity that I can only be grateful for.

The uncertainty and excitement remind me of how glorious it is to live with passion and an innate intention to become a better human being.

Letter To My Future Self

Dear Future Dumiso,

In commemoration for the Day of the African Child and South Africa’s Youth Day Uprising, 16 June 2014, herewith find a few words to remember.

The lives of young people in Soweto were taken away by ignorance, hate and inequality on this very day.

Your life may be different, with chance and opportunity, but remember the cost of freedom. Be it unused or left to the privilege of a few.

Remember the feeling of rejection and failure, with time it might be less, but this does not mean life becomes easier.

The challenge today becomes the lesson of tomorrow;

Information is fast changing the world today. Technology is changing the experience of living.

I might not know what change brings, but I know that only learning burns the fuel for adapting to it.

I know that there is so much more of the world out there,

I know that there are many others you can help to see so.

Be it in effort or in kind, God’s plan is no different.

The Grace bestowed on me today may not reflect tomorrow,

but his mercy shall always await my call.

Out of love or passion, there is no difference,

So long as you remember the desire to bring about change.

Change to a world that denies the African child Education,

Change to a world that denies the African child Well being,

Change to a world that denies the African child Intellect.

All these are the result of poverty and as you work – future me,

Remember these words and what it means to me now.

For I know not the future, but foresee the responsibility that comes with power.

I know not the future, but foresee the discipline that comes with prosperity.

For as a virtue of being African, these are the principles that will determine success.

So look back at the journey my friend, you’ve made it that far and you should still be proud.

In service and great gratitude,

Young Dumiso
